On January 5th, 2011, Lily was admitted to the Phoenix Children's Hospital because she was experiencing pain in her legs and back. A week later and after what felt like a million tests, scans and biopsies, we had a diagnosis: she has a soft tissue tumor called Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma. A PET scan revealed a small tumor in her foot that was not apparent from the outside; it was not until the cancer had already spread to her bone marrow that she experienced any symptoms. This came as a total shock to everyone as Lily has always been healthy, active and full of energy. We love our darling girl and her sweet, happy, loving spirit. This website is for friends and family to stay connected during this difficult time.

Go Team Lily!

It was a warm day today for the Hope Walk, but Team Lily was up bright and early and ready to walk to help raise money for Hope Kids. We had a great time! Thank you so much to everyone who came out to support Lily and this great cause!

Saturday, October 15th I will be running in the Grand Canyon University Run to Fight Children's Cancer. Proceeds from the race will go to the Children's Cancer Network, a charity that helps support Arizona families that have children with cancer. Anyone who wants to join me is more than welcome! Here is the link: http://www.gcuraceseries.com/index.php

Since I am just getting back into running (lack of time and extreme heat have been my biggest determent) I will only be running the 5K.   Now that the weather is nicer (one less excuse!), my goal is to return to my old running self :)

The past month the mornings have been cool enough for Phillip and I to enjoy our weekly hikes in the desert. I'm looking forward to the day when Lily will be strong enough to join us again. She always was a super hiker.

Sunday, October 23rd is the Hope Walk. Lily will be there for this one, along with family and friends. Please let me know if you want to be added to Team Lily Love! We are going to have shirts made for our team so I also need shirt sizes.

HopeWalk

HopeKids is a great organization that plans fun FREE events for children with life threatening illnesses and their families. It gives these kids a chance to experience things they may not otherwise be able to.

Through HopeKids, Lily was able to go to a Suns game and meet the team.  She also went to the ballet to see Sleeping Beauty. We would love to attend more events in the future with HopeKids, and need your support!

Our family will be walking in the HopeWalk, a 5K to raise money for HopeKids.

Hopefully we can get a big group to walk with us. This will be fun!

We had a very busy weekend with a Hopekids event scheduled Saturday and the Cut-a-thon fundraiser Sunday.

Hopekids is a super awesome foundation that provides free events to kids with life threatening illness and their families. A few weeks ago Lily was able to attend a Suns game and go down onto the court to meet the team. It was exciting for her to be there and we had a lot of fun even though we needed to leave after the opening because Lily got too tired.

Last Saturday another Hopekids event was scheduled at Bumble Bee Ranch in Prescott so we got a hotel room and drove up Friday night. Unfortunately the event was cancelled because of the cold weather that blew in Friday and Saturday. We didn't mind, though, because it gave us an excuse to get away and we got a chance to see snow! We had fun swimming in the hotel's indoor heated pool and when we woke up Saturday morning everything was covered in snow!

Our dirty old snow man.
There wasn't much snow left by the time we got a chance  to make this guy.

Brrrr! It's sooo cold!

Sunday was the Cut-a-thon fundraiser at Salon Boutique on Val Vista and Williamsfield in Gilbert. Michelle with 2 Dye For Hair Salon and other hairdressers at Salon Boutique worked hard all day cutting hair, and the proceeds of the donations went to Lily. These ladies are so wonderful! We also had a barbecue and bake sale going on and had a super fun day hanging out with good friends and family.

We are so blessed that Elizabeth came into our lives with her beautiful shining spirit!

Jake and Lily.  My sweetie pies.

Mr. and Mrs. Fantabulous. 2 supremely excellent human beings :)
It was so good to see Lily up and about and feeling good!

Our dear friends
Mozzarella and hotdogs?
Thank you sweet brother for being barbecue chef :)
Love you!

Sunday night Lily had a reiki/ reflexology session. We have been taking her for reiki about once a week for the past couple months and really like the meditative relaxation and peaceful feelings it gives. It was certainly a blessing that Luis came into our lives and we have lots of gratitude to him for being so caring and willing to help.

I was so glad that we got a chance to do some fun things over the weekend because this is another long chemo week with treatment every day Monday- Friday and at home IV hydration.  On Monday, Lily was at the clinic from 9:30- 5:30.

You know you are used to long doctor visits when 3 hours (like today's visit) seems super quick and easy. I generally look like I am packed to go camping when we get there, I have so much stuff- food, drinks, barf bags, masks, hand sanitizer, blanket, sweaters, pencils, paper, books, games, movies, ipod, laptop, the list goes on and on...

Today at the clinic
Lily wasn't feeling so good during today's treatment and was sick to her stomach. She is so brave, though, and really doesn't complain. At one point she simply said, "I wish I didn't have to come back to tomorrow, I feel like I had enough for this week."
