On January 5th, 2011, Lily was admitted to the Phoenix Children's Hospital because she was experiencing pain in her legs and back. A week later and after what felt like a million tests, scans and biopsies, we had a diagnosis: she has a soft tissue tumor called Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma. A PET scan revealed a small tumor in her foot that was not apparent from the outside; it was not until the cancer had already spread to her bone marrow that she experienced any symptoms. This came as a total shock to everyone as Lily has always been healthy, active and full of energy. We love our darling girl and her sweet, happy, loving spirit. This website is for friends and family to stay connected during this difficult time.

Thankful!

We had a great Thanksgiving this year! Not only was it very relaxing (and yummy!), we had so much to be thankful for. Lily's health was of course top on our list; we are so happy and grateful that her treatment has gone so well this year.

We have also been enjoying this beautiful fall weather! We've been spending as much time outdoors as possible and Lily and I have been planting all sorts of things: flowers, radishes, garlic, onions, spinach, lettuce, beets, and broccoli so far.

Lovey helping with the planting!

All my sweet pups except for my Lovey are gone to good homes, with friends that we know will love and take good care of them.

It's been two weeks since Lily's last treatment, but tomorrow is a long chemo day with 3 different chemo therapies and overnight hydration.

We recently got 6 baby chicks!
They were so cute and tiny, but are growing up fast!

Phillip and Marcus built them the most awesome coop! It's been so fun and we can't wait until they are old enough to start laying eggs.

Our dog also just had 4 tiny, super cute baby puppies. They are so adorable and Lily is completely in love!

We are loving this (somewhat) cooler weather. Time to put in our winter garden! I love that I can garden year round in AZ. Here Lily is standing by watermelon plants that she planted this summer.

Mama's Marvelous Organic Juice

With no chemo for the past week, Lily's appetite has been good. She will even let me juice for her, which makes me really happy.

Here's our favorite recipe which makes about one glass of juice:

1 Apple
1 Cup of carrots
1/2 Large beet or 1 small beet
1 Handful of greens (chard, spinach, kale)

I always buy organic produce, but lately I've been able to use our own organically grown apples and veggies from my garden :)

Fresh picked dinner!

We've been working in the garden this week. We planted melons, tomatoes, squash, eggplant and peppers. Meanwhile, our zucchini plants are coming along nicely and we have been harvesting beets, carrots, chard, onions and garlic.

There is nothing like a hospital stay to make you appreciate the beauty of spring! Our neglected garden finally got a little care last weekend. We got some summer vegetables planted.
